5Very Good device with one Flaw (resolved by Customer Service)
By Papa Johnny
First I would like to confirm that this is the exact same unit as the ION OMNI SCAN Stand-Alone Image and Slide Scanner http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0046TBJEM.

- I use it only for 35mm films - Color and B/W.
- I set it at 10 Megapixel per picture (there are 2 options: 5 Mpx and 10 Mpx) and I do recommend it to be set this way. Otherwise the pictures will look smaller on modern monitors or HDTVs. The size of the file will still be small, comparing to any modern digital camera.

PROs:

1. It's very easy for use and should be intuitive even for seniors (with some initial help from their kids :) I wouldn't recommend to use any enhancements to the scans on the device itself - it's better to use any free simple editor, like Picasa afterwards for contrast/color improvements.

2. It's FAST, because, actually, this is not a scan - this is a small camera inside the device which makes pictures of films and slides. To feel the speed - I was able to make about 750 pictures in just 2 evenings.

3. It's a stand alone unit - you can scan to a SDHC card that are very cheap now.

CONs:

There is only one, but quite a significant flaw. There is a piece called "Film holder" that is used to guide a film or a slide into the device. It's made of clear plastic. It gets scratches pretty fast (at least for films). Those are micro scratches, that go in the film direction and they become visible on the pictures after approximately first 500 frames. The manufacturer provides TWO (2) of those holders inside the box, which is nice, but not enough in my case. So keep this in mind.

NOTE FOR THE MANUFACTURER / DISTRIBUTOR:
If I would be able to buy those Film Holders as parts - I would give it 5 stars!

UPDATE 08/29/2012
I decided to upgrade my review to 5 stars after I contacted the DB-Tech Customer Service (dbtech@camarketingusa.com) about extra "Film Holders". Sam replied almost immediately and resolved my issues. Great Customer Service!

UPDATE 11/12/2012
I just got an email from the seller. They added "DB-Tech Replacement Film Holders for DB-FS150 Film Slide and Negative Scanner - 3x Strip Film and 1x Single Frame holder" - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A6GROIO for $3.99. I would REALLY recommend to buy a set of those together with the scanner. Kudos to the seller - they listened to their customers! :)

5Break out those old memories and convert them to modern digital photos!
By jjceo (jjceo@comcast . net)
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RGLNYVSHQITPR I have been a photographer for 45 years and I enjoy shooting photos at family get togethers, vacations and weddings. In the old days almost all of my photos were with 35 MM color film or B/W film. Now I use high resolution digital cameras.

This excellent scanner allows you to convert your old film into high resolution JPEG photos that are 5 or 10 Mega pixels in size. It will scan 35 mm color film, black and white film and slides. This is all selectable in the device in the setup mode. The unit has a color LCD display so you can see your photos and you can flip them, make mirror images and adjust the brightness to get a good copy.

It comes with:
* The scanner
* An AC wall power supply
* A USB cable to power it or to connect it to your computer
* A cable to connect the scanner to your TV
* A film holder for strip film
* A film/slide holder for single pieces of film or slides
* An instruction book
* A film removal strip

The unit is compatible with both Mac and PC computers and it requires no software. When it is plugged into your computer it looks like a hard drive and you can transfer the photos to your computer for further editing or posting. The photos are stored on a SD card and the storage and conversion is fast and easy. Make sure that you use a 32 GIG memory SD card or smaller and that it is formatted in FAT32 format. SD cards larger than 32 GIG use exFat and that formatting is not compatible with the scanner.
Make sure that you are careful not to scratch the plastic film holders and that they and the film are not dusty. Every speck of dust will be a spot on your converted photo so extra care in cleaning will produce a better final result. If your film holders get scratched you can purchase additional ones on Amazon here:

DB-Tech Replacement Film Holders for DB-FS150 Film Slide and Negative Scanner - 3x Strip Film and 1x Single Frame holder

What I like is that you can convert your film into JPEG photos without the use of a computer and it is fast and easy. I hope the video is helpful to you in making your purchasing decision. My wife and I love this product and we are beginning to go through boxes of film now to be to convert them all.

I rated this product as a 5 star item.

I was supplied a sample for test and evaluation and I promised to provide a fair and honest review.

3Fast Scan But...
By Video Doc
I have a consumer video services company. I need a way to scan slides faster than we currently
do with a flatbed scanner. I bought the unit to speed-up production.
I was anxious to try the unit, so I rescanned some slides that we just finished
for a customer. So I had a "Before" and "After" picture to compare.

I'd recommend this for the novice/consumer that is looking to do the leg work themselves.
There is no way to control color with this unit.
A lot of slides were yellow or blue. I was able to color correct the scans with my photo editor.

It was extremely fast and the picture was OK.
I hooked up the USB cable and a Digital Media Card for saving.
Easy to transfer and access the files from the media card.

Give it a try. If you are looking for top quality slide scans, this unit is not for you.
I may keep it to use for 35mm negatives to scan.
